Alan Turing, best known for his work in cryptography and artificial intelligence, was also fascinated by how math works in nature. At the time of his death, he was working on establishing how plants grow, by studying the Fibonacci sequence which often occurs in sunflower seed heads.

In his honour, the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester if following his experiment. If you are growing a sunflower - it’s too late to plant one now - you can participate.

Permutaciones

Using Robot Sensing Technology to Help the Blind

The system, unveiled at a talk at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology this month, produces a 3D map of the wearer’s environment and their position within it that is constantly updated and displayed in a simplified form on a handheld electronic Braille device. It could eventually allow blind people to make their way, unaided, wherever they want to go, says Pissaloux.
“Navigation for me means not only being able to move around by avoiding nearby obstacles, but also to understand how the space is socially organised”

A personal take on the innovative and controversial Homeless Hotspots campaign at SWSW. Love to see the tech community debating this.

The recent release of the iPhone 4S got us thinking about the future and all the wonderful things it has in store for us. Sure, we don’t have jetpacks yet, but we do have Siri.
